Authorizations

The General Directorate for Authorizations in Telecommunications (‘’Dirección General de Autorizaciones en Telecomunicaciones’’) is a nation-wide line agency that is in charge of assessing and dealing with requests related to the operation of open-signal radio and television stations and private telecommunications services; it specifies the frequencies or channels for this operation.


Furthermore, the Directorate assesses compliance with obligations derived from authorizations granted, such as financial obligations (royalties, fees, duties), among others. Moreover, it is in charge of planning the radio spectrum used by open-signal radio and television stations and private telecommunications services.


Its functions are:


  • Assessing and processing requests for operation of open-signal radio and television stations.
  • Providing citizens with information on topics related to broadcasting services.
  • Assessing and processing requests related to the operation of private telecommunications services (for use by the users themselves), such as land mobile service, maritime mobile service, aeronautical mobile service, landline service and ancillary broadcasting services, among others.
  • Providing citizens with information on topics related to private telecommunications services.
  • Verifying compliance with financial obligations (royalties, fees, and duties) related to authorized broadcasting services and private telecommunications services, as well as determining and demanding payment of corresponding debts.
  • Informing citizens regarding financial obligations in the telecommunications sector.
